Version 5 Beta 21 (32/64 bits)

Touch-It version 5 is coming !

We are pleased to announce that Touch-It version 5 Beta 21 is ready for download. Feel free to try up the new features. Your feedback, bug reports, comments and suggestions are welcome. Feel free to contact us!

This beta includes the 32 and 64 bits desktop and logon runtime as well as the Keyboard Designer.

Install

Version 5 Beta 21 does not use the same folders as versions 4.9.7 and prior. Thus they can coexist on the same machine. However, this is the beta version which will start at the Windows startup. To return to the previous version, follow these steps:

Edit the Setup,
Remove the "Autostart at Windows startup" check mark,
Press the "Apply" button,
Tick again "Autostart at Windows startup",
Press either "Apply" or "Save".

Complete rewrite

Touch-It has been completely rewritten to take advantage of the latest APIs while definitely eliminating support for older OS (like Windows 2000) which was still present in version 4.9.7. The result is a faster application with a smaller memory usage. Its footprint is about 15MB with or without dictionaries.

Gestures

Gesture features have been added. You can now switch among keyboards by simply swiping from left to right (or right to left) on the touch screen. The keyboard can be hidden by swiping downward. To show it up, place your finger at the bottom edge (even outside the screen) and swipe upward (does not work with Windows 8).
Please note that our testing were mostly carried on capacitive panels. Resistive panels do not provide the same accuracy and it may be necessary to repeat the movement several times to trigger the action.

Tested on bModo 12G, FePad and Archos 9 tablet PCs.

Display when needed

Feature known as "Focus change" has been completely redesigned. The detection of fields that require the keyboard is much more accurate than the previous version. Whenever the field cannot be detected (e.g. the Opera browser), just use the gestures.

Languages

All languages are supported, including East Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean). Dictionaries are available in more than 20 languages.
CAUTION: Do not use dictionaries of version 4.9.7 found on the download page, but only those proposed by the installer 5 Beta 21.

Accented characters

As in version 4.9.7, accented characters are available by pressing and holding the key (eg "e" -> "éèêë"). Version 5 adds the same behavior for other non-alphabetic characters such as "@" which provide url characters (":/\?&=%.-_"), the "." for punctuation marks (",:;!?'") or "$" for currency symbols. Please note that the accents have no effect on queries in dictionaries making typing even faster!

Typing aid

The Typing aid has also been reworked for greater accuracy. Typing aid and word prediction make pressing "Space" and "Shift" keys useless in 90% of cases. However, it may happen that the behavior of the typing aid is not as expected. An example is an email address like this one "firstname.name@site.com" that would be inserted as follow "firstname. Name@site.com". To temporarily suspend it, simply press the accessibility key to the right of the spacebar. It will resume automatically with the manual insertion of a space.
